The Fertility Clinic

The Fertility Clinic is responsible for treatment of infertility with all types of assisted insemination, i.e. in vitro fertilization, micro-insemination, freezing of embyos and egg donation. The clinic also performs preimplantation genetic diagnoses, cryopreservation of ovarian tissue and diagnostic evaluation and treatment of patients with habitual abortions. The clinic has a vision of becoming the largest and leading scientific clinic within the fertility area in the Nordic countries, offering all types of modern fertility treatments.

This includes specialist functions such as treatment of male infertility and patients with abortus habitualis, HIV positive couples and preimplantation diagnosis and freezing of ovarian tissue with a view to reimplantation later on.

The clinic offers treatment with assisted reproduction such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), intracytoplasmic sperm injection of eggs (ICSI), egg donation, insemination with donor sperm or the partner's sperm, ovulation induction and, to a limited extent, surgical treatment.​

The strategy for maintaining the clinic's lead status in the fertility area is to increase the volume and organisation of the clinic by e.g. maintaining activity on more than 2,500 treatment courses per year and upgrading the function for habitual abortion by increasing the number of treatments from the current just over 120 couples to about 200 couples.

The clinic will thus in future become one of the 10 largest fertility clinics in Europe. The clinic will then become better at meeting the need for treatment and at offering treatment within 4 months. An expansion would mean that the clinic is better able to offer more specialist treatments such as egg donation, ovary freezing, PGD and examination of couples who have had habitual abortions; treatments where a certain differentiation of tasks is an advantage. This requires more staff.

The increased capacity will provide better opportunity for clinical research in future.

The clinic wants to maintain its national function for ovary freezing and aims at establishing networks on egg donation in East Denmark. As a new focus area, the clinic wants to establish a framework for a reproduction centre with integration of laboratories and clinical activity increasing the cooperation on course of treatment for patients and research between the three main functions within reproduction at Rigshospitalet, i.e. the Fertility Clinic, the Department of Growth and Reproduction and the Laboratory of Reproductive Biology.

The Fertility Clinic aims at maintaining a high degree of visibility and presence in the international professional environment on reproduction, and the goal is to strengthen international cooperation. This will be done by profiling the clinic and participating at European level through research and organisational work in ESHRE and the Nordic Fertility Society and by publishing 20-25 articles per year in international peer-reviewed journals.

​The Laboratory of Reproductive Biology which researches in genetic and molecular biological mechanisms, wants to further develop the laboratory so that it complies with the "Good Manufacturing Practice" for cultivation of stem cells and other cell lines, also with regard to therapeutic use.​​

The clinic treats childless couples who have already been examined by their own physician, a medical specialist or a hospital ward to establish the reasons for their infertility.

The clinic offers all types of fertility treatment:​

• Insemination with male sperm
• Stimulation treatment in connection with lack of ovulation
• Regular in vitro fertilisation (IVF)
• In vitro fertilisation by intracytoplasmic sperm injection of eggs (ICSI)
• Insemination with sperm from anonymous sperm donor
• Treatment with frozen eggs
• Egg grading
• Fertility treatment of HIV positive people
• Fertility treatment of couples where one party is infected with hepatitis

At the moment there is a waiting time of approx. 6 months on initial consultation before starting treatment.​​

How to register for treatment

If you wish to register for treatment, you must do the following on the first bleeding day:

• Open the MinSP app or the website minsundhedsplatform.dk
• Tap for the letter icon
• Press "write to us"
• Select Fertility Clinic Rigshospitalet
• Select "Booking/Agreements
• In the subject field write "Registration"
• Complete the message with
• CPR number
• ​1st bleeding day
• Height
• Weight
• Length of your menstruationcycle
• ​If you/your partner have used birth control pills and when the last pill was taken.
• You can also fill in if you are in a meeting during the day or you prefer that we report back via minSP.
• Press send

The secretaries will then receive your registration. We will check our inbox regularly for entries.

Monday-Saturday at 12.00 we will collect all registrations and call you back between 12.00-14.00 to tell if you can start teatment and what your treatment plan will be.

If you do not have a Danish CPR number and your CPR number therefore consists of both numbers and letters, you cannot use MinSP, which is why you must register by calling the secretariat: Tel. 3545 4071, press 2. The phone is open Monday-Friday at 08.30-12.00 and Saturdays at 10.00 a.m.-12.00 p.m.

The Fertility Clinic participates in the teaching of medical and nurse students, medical secretary students and midwife students at Rigshospitalet. The Fertility Clinic is involved with the medical specialist training in gynaecology and obstetrics, for more information see th​e Danish​ website.   

The area of medical continuing training focuses on physicians who are medical specialists and who want expert training in the field of assisted reproduction.

Continuing training of nurses is primarily about internal and informal further training as a fertility nurse, a position that includes specialist knowledge and routine in relation to a number of treatments that traditionally have been managed by physicians.

The clinic participates in student training (48 students per year), training of young physicians in transvaginal ultrasound and short study trips during the medical specialist training programme.

If you have been given an appointment at the hospital and are unable to attend for whatever reason it is really important that you let us know as soon as possible. This means we can offer the original appointment to another patient.
