In the Department of Nephrology and Endocrinology, we treat patients with kidney diseases, including transplantation and dialysis, as well as patients with hormonal and metabolic disorders, including diabetes, pituitary and adrenal diseases, and neuroendocrine tumours.
The Department of Nephrology and Endocrinology provides specialized care for patients with kidney, hormone, and metabolic disorders. Our mission is to ensure the best possible treatment through close collaboration with other specialties, general practitioners, and the patients’ families. While some conditions are curable, most patients require long-term or lifelong follow-up.
The department is organized into two primary medical specialties, offering outpatient clinics, day-care, and inpatient wards.
Endocrinology: Responsible for treating severe or rare hormonal and metabolic disorders, including diabetes (including pregnancy-related), pituitary and adrenal diseases, metabolic bone diseases, and neuroendocrine tumors (NET).
Nephrology: Responsible for acute and chronic kidney disease, autoimmune disorders, and hypertension. We provide specialized blood purification (hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis) and management of calcium metabolism.
Kidney Transplantation: A highly specialized unit performing 75–100 transplants annually for patients from Eastern Denmark, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands, including pediatric cases.
The department serves as a highly specialized center for Eastern Denmark and the North Atlantic, aiming to treat patients during the day so they can return home whenever possible.
