Gynaecology

We treat and investigate the female reproductive organs, e.g. for problems early in pregnancy or for diseases of the vagina, cervix uteri, uterus, ovaries and Fallopian tubes. We also has a Centre for Victims of Sexual Assault which is a 24hr function for reception and treatment, as well as a Danish knowledge centre function.

About us

We are one out of three gynaecological departments in the Capital Region of Denmark.

Rigshospitalet is responsible for the acute gynaecological function for Rigshospitalet and for the coverage area of Frederiksberg Hospital.

Outpatient section for acutely referred patients - Acute Admission Ward (AMA)
Outpatient section for referred patients
A special acute outpatient section for cancer patients. Referred patients are examined within three days and a plan for diagnostic evaluation is established right away
Two wards for admitted and operated patients

Our approach
We are a highly specialised unit in the region with ambitions to continuously develop the gynaecological speciality at international level through research, development and training. We focus on evidence-based diagnostic evaluation and treatment as well as patient-and-family-centred treatment and care.

We will continue to be a place where the patient is met as someone with individual needs, and someone who for a short or long period of time of his or her life requires our help.

Innovation District Copenhagen appoints new CEO

Innovation District Copenhagen (IDC) has appointed Annemarie Munk Riis as its new Chief Executive Officer, taking up the position on June 1st 2026. She arrives directly from a position as CEO at Green Building Council and holds a degree in economics from the University of Copenhagen and a PhD from Copenhagen Business School.

New Danish–Swedish hospital collaboration to boost research and patient treatment

Conducting large clinical studies and sharing research data between Sweden and Denmark is about to become easier. Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital and Skåne University Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to facilitate cross-border collaboration and strengthen health innovation in the Öresund Region.

Sensory play installations will create a safer hospital experience for children across the country

New play installations at Mary Elizabeths Hospital, Aalborg University Hospital, and Sygehus Lillebælt will help children feel calmer and more confident before medical examinations. Nordea-fonden is funding the project with DKK 12.25 million.
