Research in the Juliane Marie Centre

​CHILD (CAG Host Infections Laboratory Research Drugs) is a nationwide research platformpromoting basic, translational, and clinical research in childhood infections. CHILD conductsrandomized controlled trials to optimize antibiotic therapy and numerous projects developinginnovative diagnostic tools and investigating pathophysiology through omics technologies inprospective real-time nationwide studies.

In Center for Cerebral Palsy and Early Brain Damage our goal is to develop and improve the diagnostic and treatment of persons with CP, by combining already established knowledge with novel research. 

​In Center for Inherited Metabolic Diseases, we are dedicated to advancing the understanding of metabolic diseases from diagnosis via newborn screening to treatment and follow-up. Our research spans across various populations, with studies of treatment and basal metabolic investigations of fat, glucose and protein metabolism in acutely and chronically ill children, healthy children, and individuals of all ages with inborn errors of metabolism.

The Center for Rare Diseases is an outpatient clinic with a primary focus on diagnosing and providing follow-up care for complex, multidisciplinary diseases. We specialize in a broad range of rare conditions, such as syndromal craniofacial disorders, skeletal dysplasias, tuberous sclerosis, neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), Rubinstein-Taybi syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, and Rett syndrome. Research and clinical work are closely related at the Danish Center for Rett syndrome. We aim to contribute to timely and optimized prevention and treatment. The research is conducted in collaboration with both national and international researchers. We participate in national and international conferences and meetings with oral presentations and posters.

​We are a small research unit dedicated to improving conditions for young people with chronicand serious illnesses in Denmark /at Rigshospitalet. In 2019, we collaborated with patients andstakeholders across Denmark to develop the National Guideline for a Youth-FriendlyHealthcare System via a Delphi study. All our research aligns with the scope of this guidelineand consistently involves young patients and/or their families. As a small unit, we strive tocollaborate with other research units and clinics that share an interest in adolescent medicine.

​In the Clinical Trial Unit – Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, we facilitate clinical trials of new medicines targeting various rare diseases. In many cases, there are no approved effective treatments for rare diseases and our mission is to make innovative and lifesaving new treatments available to children, that would otherwise not be able to receive treatments.

​Immunereconstitution and toxicities in paediatriconcology and stem cell transplantation

​Our research is closely related to the clinical work at the Danish Center for Rett syndrome and our research questions often arise from the clinical practice.  We aim to contribute to timely and optimized prevention and treatment and to increase quality of life as best as possible.

The Danish Pediatric Pulmonary Service or Clinic for Children and Adolescents with Pulmonary Diseases includes the Danish PCD & chILD Centre, and CF Centre Copenhagen. The centre is among the world's leading institutions for the treatment of children and adolescents with chronic lung diseases and is the only one of its kind in Denmark.

​​Global Health Unit is affiliated to the Department of Paediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Copenhagen Hospital, Rigshospitalet. It is made of a group of paediatricians, MDs and medical students, all working towards improved and equal health for children globally by research, training and networking.

​​MARYS' Data Powerhouse, affiliated with Mary Elizabeth's Hospital, collects and shares data from across the country on the health, social, and economic consequences of serious illnesses in children, adolescents, pregnant women, and their families. The collected data is used to identify, test, and implement concrete interventions in clinical practice.

​The team is responsible for the postgraduate training of pediatric residents at the department and research related to education.

​Paediatric Care Research is located within the Interdisciplinary Research Unit of Women's, Children's, and Families' Health. Here, researchers with different health professional backgrounds are gathered in a research community on issues related to children, youth, women and families and their needs for prevention and treatment of acute and chronic conditions.

​The ​Paediatric Oncology Research Laboratory, Bonkolab, is the research laboratory for the Paediatric Oncology Unit at Rigshospitalet. The research at Bonkolab covers all areas of childhood oncology in close collaboration with the clinic.

​The research group "Little Livers" focus on prognostic markers for progression of liver disease and related complications in pediatric chronic liver disease (PCLD). Related complications include immune dysfunction, impaired neurocognitive function, unbalanced liver-gut-brainaxis, changed body composition and implication on quality of life

​The research unit has its focus on research that has a direct impact on the families and patients with a need of pediatric palliative care. They work with novel and comprehensive ideas to improve the quality of life and treatment in PPC. Recently the focus has mainly been on international collaboration to develop and test new digital solutions an AI algorithms

The Research Unit at Department of Anesthesiology, Juliane Marie Center specializes in initiating, developing, coordinating, and participating in clinical research projects on optimizing the perioperative management of surgical pediatric, obstetric, and gynecological patients.

​Pediatric rheumatic conditions are generally relatively rare, which is why it is necessary to collaborate both nationally and internationally. This collaboration ensures the greatest possible knowledge about each disease and guarantees the best possible treatment for children with rheumatic diseases and related conditions regardless of their place of residence.

The Almstrup Group works at the intersection of genetics, epigenetics, and reproductive biology. We study how genetic and epigenetic variation, together with testicular gene expression and sperm cell function, influences reproductive outcomes

​Paediatric haematology and oncology with a special focus on tumours of the central nervous system and early phase clinical trials for all types of cancer in children and adolescents.

Translational research and innovation in clinical biochemistry of hormones and growth factors involved in sex differentiation and maturation, child growth, and adult reproductive health and human biomonitoring of environmental chemicals potentially affecting endocrine systems.

Through work in large-scale cohorts, epidemiological studies and laboratory investigations we explore trends in and determinants of testicular function and pathology.

The Translational Reproduction and Fertility Group conducts translational research focused on human sperm physiology. Main topics of the group are non-hormonal unisex contraception, human fertility, and human male epigenetic inheritance.

​Since 2012, this unit has randomized over 11,000 infants in investigator-initiated vaccine trials, showcasing unmatched expertise in clinical trials and vaccine research. Their multifaceted approach includes clinical trials with integrated lab work, national real-life vaccine efficacy and safety cohort studies, and pharmacoepidemiological evaluations of long-term safety for biologicals.​
