Guidance for you after your Oocyte pick-up, Progesteron og transfer

Dear

Today you have been through an oocyte pick-up and we recommend that you relax for the rest of the day.

The days after the oocyte pick-up

After the oocyte pick-up you can expect some vaginal bleeding which may last a few days. The bleeding comes from the injection sites in the top of your vagina. It can be heavy the first day, but it is supposed to decrease during the day and evening. It is also normal to have menstrual pain.

You can take 1g of Paracetamol every 6.th hour. (2 x 500 mg tablets) if needed.

You are always welcome to call us if you have any questions.

If you experience any complications outside our opening hours, please call 1813.

Sexual intercourse should be avoided for the next couple of days as well as bathtub.

Most women will be able to go to work the day after oocyte pick-up.

Your follicles will be refilled with fluid after a few days. It is normal that your stomach feels heavy, tender and bloated. It will be less after some time, but it may last up to 14 days. During the time when you feel affected after the procedure, it is recommended to reduce exercise and hard physical work.

The risk of infection is over when you have stopped bleeding and you may have a normal sex life.

Please notice that you are not allowed to drive a car or ride a bike for the next 24 hours. The reason is that you have received medicine that makes you tired and a little inattentive.

Result of the oocyte retrieval and fertilization:

__________day______/_______

you need to call the laboratory between 9.45 and 10.00.

Telephone number 3545 4071, press 5 and then press 1,

The laboratory technologist will tell you the result of the fertilization and if there is an embryo of a good quality to transfer.

In the laboratory they will look at the development and quality of the embryos and decide if one embryo will be transferred on the same day (day two ) or if they will be cultured until day five - to be able to choose the embryo that will give the best pregnancy chance.

You will also be informed about the time for transfer. In weekdays it will be between 12.00 – 14.00 and in weekends from 11.00.

If there are more than one developed embryo, these will be cultured into blastocysts until day five or six. If it is successful, they will be put in the freezer and can be used in treatments later.

You will receive a mail in your e-boks with the result.

If there are no embryos to transfer, the doctor will call you later the same day.

Embryo transfer:

The embryo will be transferred to your uterus with a thin catheter. We use ultrasound as a supplement. It is easier to do the transfer if you have a full bladder.

Please drink at least ½ liter of water 1 hour before the transfer.
