The staff
At section 4021 you will meet nurses, midwives and students. We will take care of your care and treatment during your admission in collaboration with our medical specialists.
If you or your partner has any worries, questions or just need to speak to the staff about your situation, we are available.
Length of admission
The length of your admission depends on why you are admitted.
The staff will keep you informed about this during your stay.
During your admission you will be able to receive help for breastfeeding and on understanding your child’s signals and needs.
Your child can be admitted to the Department of Neonatology after the birth. If this is the case, the departments will collaborate to ensure the best care for you and the baby in your situation.
Practical information
There are a few practical matters that you need to take care of yourself during your admission:
- For the meals you need to pick up food and drinks yourself. You are welcome to dine in the kitchen, but you may also dine in your room.
- We kindly ask that you clean up after your meal and place the dirty dishes on the trolley by the kitchen.
- Out of consideration for your co-patients, relatives and staff, we ask that you remain dressed during your stay.
Shifts
We change shifts at 7 AM, 3.30 PM and 11.15 PM. During the shifts we pass on information about admitted patients. If your need for help is not acute, please wait to contact us until after these meetings, they last approximately 15
minutes.
Calling the staff
If you need help, you can call the staff by pulling the red cord on the wall or by finding a midwife or nurse at the office.
Alarm
In case of emergency, push the little red button on the panel behind your bed.
Internet access
You can gain access to the internet for free during your admission. Ask the staff for a guest login.
Visiting hours
We have open visiting hours. We encourage that you respect your co-patients’
and your own need for rest and quietness. We have a couch area by the elevators that you are welcome to use with your visitors. We encourage that the rooms are quiet after 9 PM.
Food and drink
Breakfast is served between 8.00 - 9.00 AM
Lunch is served between 12 - 12.30 PM
Dinner is served between 5.30 – 6 PM
The meals are served at the buffet in the kitchen.
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer food for persons accompanying you during your stay. However, food is available in the cafeteria or 7-Eleven on the ground floor.
There is a refrigerator in the kitchen area where you can store your own food. Remember to label your food with name and date.
You can help yourself to something to drink in the kitchen, including cold water from a water cooler.
7-Eleven
7-Eleven, placed between entrance 2 and 3, is open 24 hours a day, all year round.
The Arcade Café
Opening hours, weekdays: 6.30 AM – 7 PM
Opening hours, weekends: 8 AM – 6.30 PM
Visit at the Department of Neonatology
If we expect you to deliver before your due date, we advise you and your partner to talk to a pediatrician and to visit the Department of Neonatology. We strive to ensure that you receive antenatal education before your delivery. You can find further information about antenatal education on the internet.
The library
You can find our library on the ground floor. You are welcome to borrow books and audiotapes, much like a regular library.
The library trolley will come by the section every Tuesday around noon with a small selection of books and audiotapes.
If you have a smartphone, you can download the app ”OverDrive” where you can borrow e-books and audiobooks for free.
Examinations
All newborns are offered a hearing screening (a hearing examination) and a PKU test (a blood sample taken from the newborn’s heel). The PKU test will be carried out 48-72 hours following birth.
The hearing screening might be carried out during your admission, but it is also possible to schedule an appointment for an outpatient hearing screening. Talk to the staff about where to book an appointment.
Changing table
You can find changing tables in your room, and you can pick up clean clothing and diapers for your child in the cupboard in the hallway.
We have a nursing room with a changing table you are welcome to use at night or in relation to weighing your child. Please remember to disinfect the changing mat before and after each use, as you will be sharing the room with many others.
Milk extraction

We have milk extraction machines within the section and in the Department of Neonatology. We will help you get started when you are ready, preferably within 6 hours of your delivery.
Clean clothing and linen storage (Rent depot)
You can find clean clothing and bed linen in the cupboard in the hallway. You can also find diapers and bed linen for children.
Dirty clothing and linen storage (Urent depot)
Here you will find flower vases, bags for dirty clothes and refuse bags. You can also find bags for dirty clothes in the bathroom.
Hygiene
We expect you to help keep your room tidy for the cleaning staff that cleans every morning. This includes removing your personal belongings from the floor such as clothing, shoes or other effects.
We kindly ask that you disinfect the toilet seat after each use.
Guests have to use the guest toilet in the hallway by room E.
Conversation with a priest or a psychologist
If you need to speak with a priest or a psychologist about your situation, the staff will help you arrange it.
Discharge
Before you are discharged, you will be offered a conversation with the staff and in most cases also a physician. The conversation will be regarding your stay and the further course of your pregnancy or maternity leave. During this conversation you can also schedule outpatient visits and/or follow-up as needed after your discharge.
If you need to speak with the staff after you have been discharged, you are welcome to call the section. If the need arises after more than 1 month after your discharge, you need to address your concerns to your own physician.

If you are still pregnant, you need to contact your midwife or your own physician.
Health visitor
The health visitor will contact you quickly after you deliver, either by phone call or text message. The first visit will be scheduled hereafter. You can find your health visitor on your municipality’s website.
