About the test

You will have to check your blood sugar levels 6 times a day over 3 days so we can see whether you are developing gestational diabetes. We will lend you the equipment you need.

There are several reasons why you might develop gestational diabetes. The risk is greater for women who:

• had a BMI of 27 or more prior to pregnancy
• come from families with a history of diabetes
• have previously given birth to a baby weighing 4,500 grams or more
• have previously had gestational diabetes
• have or have had sugar in their urine during pregnancy
• are expecting more than one baby
• suffer from polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS).

What to do

Eat as usual during the 3 days before beginning the at-home test

Eat as you usually would in the 3 days leading up to the start of the test.

Spread your meals throughout the day

During the 3 days of measurements, we recommend eating 3 main meals a day and a snack between each meal. The snacks should be consumed at least 2 hours before the main meal as this will help provide us with the most accurate results.

When to measure your blood sugar

You need to check your blood sugar levels 6 times a day for 3 days in a row:

• Before breakfast.
• 1½ hours after you started eating breakfast.
• Before lunch.
• 1½ hours after you started eating lunch.
• Before dinner.
• 1½ hours after you started eating dinner.

Before a meal, your blood sugar should be between 4-6 mmol/l, and 1½ hours after starting a meal, your blood sugar should be between 4-8 mmol/l.

Send us the measurements you take via the MinSP app

Each time you check your blood sugar level, send us the measurements via the MinSP app:

• Select ’Mine målinger’ (my measurements)
• Select ’Tidspunkt’ (time)
• Enter your blood sugar level where it says ‘Mmol/L’
• Click on ‘Gem’ (save) in the right-hand corner.

Your answers will then be automatically transferred to your electronic medical record at the hospital.
