​Rigshospitalet's new hospital for children, young people, expecting mothers and their families will be named after Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary. The hospital is to open in four years, and it will be called ‘Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital - Rigshospitalet for Children, Teens and Expecting Families´.

​Thanks to a DKK 4 million donation to BørneRiget from TrygFonden, the hospital is now able to develop “Kroppens Rige” [body realm] – a series of installations where children and their families can play their way to an understanding of the body, disease and clinical examinations while they are in hospital.

​When BørneRiget – Rigshospitalet’s new hospital building for children, young people and expectant mothers – opens its doors in 2025, the hospital’s flexible design will ensure it is able to look after twice as many patients during any epidemics like coronavirus.

​A new online platform collects ideas on how to use play in the treatment of children and adolescents. The goal is to help the patients better handle everything from blood tests to long term illnesses. 

​A grant of DKK 60 mill. (EUR 8 mill.) to BørneRiget from the Novo Nordisk Foundation means that three professors have been recruited at Rigshospitalet to secure a Danish lead within reconstructive surgery, foetal diagnostics and treatment of children with heart diseases.
