Title: Dementia and Mortality: A Nationwide Registry-Based Study.

Meeting ID: 626 9127 5139

This thesis describes the time trends of incidence, prevalence, mortality, and causes of death in people with dementia in an entire national population. It identified people with dementia as a vulnerable group emphasized by a markedly higher mortality. Moreover, it underpins that dementia conditions should be perceived as serious and fatal brain diseases, as the five-year mortality is largely similar to that in cancer and acute ischemic heart disease. Hopefully, this change in perception of dementia as a fatal disease should result in more investments in research, including continuing thesearch for efficacious, disease modifying drugs, and in better health care for people with dementia.
