The tumor biology group focuses on deciphering cancer cell biology in childhood hematological cancers and solid tumors and exploiting this knowledge for improving staging and treatment. Key research areas include:

  • High sensitivity methods for detecting central nervous system (CNS) involvement in acute lymphoblastic leukemia and non-Hodgkin lymphoma: We collect and analyze cerebrospinal fluid by flow cytometry, quantitative mass spectrometry and circulating tumor DNA profiling to study the sensitivity and prognostic value of these methods in detection of CNS involvement. The tumor biology group coordinates an international CSF flow NHL study covering eight European countries aiming to enroll 360 NHL patients.

  • Advanced in vitro models of acute lymphoblastic leukemia: We aim at developing 3D in vitro models that incorporate important aspects of the tumor microenvironment, such as supporting cells, extracellular matrix and microenvironment-specific growth factors.
