The CNS group conducts research within 5C (Danish Collaborative Comprehensive Childhood CNS Tumor Consortium), a national research collaboration that broadly stimulates a strong clinical and scientific platform for the development of new strategies within diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up of children with CNS tumors. By integrating the interdisciplinary teams at the four pediatric oncology departments in Denmark, as well as our scientific collaboration partners in Denmark and internationally, 5C aims to strengthen 5 areas of action:
Tumor etiology, including investigating whether variants in the individual patient's DNA affect the risk of brain tumor development and treatment response.
Earlier diagnostics through increased focus on detecting symptoms in the population and within the healthcare system.
Tumor biology, including development of in vivo models of childhood brain tumors.
Improved diagnostics through improved methods for MRI and FET-PET brain scans.
Better habilitation, including national programs for neuropsychological examination and strategies for physical training, education and cognitive development and support.
