Improvement in treatment and classification of children with cancer has led to significant increase in survival, but the price has been severe acute toxicities as well as late effect in a large proportion of the patients.

A major aim in BONKOLAB is to map these toxicities and to understand their biologic background to identify clinical risk factors and biomarkers that may guide individualized treatment and prophylaxis in the clinical thereby limiting the burden of toxicities.

These studies include clinical cohort studies, genetic profiling, immune dysfunction and infection as well as dissection of specific molecular pathways including metabolomics, nutrition, microbiome and inflammation.
