We quantify levels of chemotherapeutics (including key metabolites) in body fluids as part of research and clinical care. Measurements primarily focus on methotrexate and thiopurine metabolites, imatinib, and busulfan. We investigate the associations between metabolites and toxicities, non-adherence to therapy, and “hard endpoints” such as relapse, secondary cancer, and death. We perform therapeutic drug monitoring in clinical trials.

The AIM study (ABL-class Imatinib pharmacokinetics/-dynamics Monitoring study), which performs therapeutic drug monitoring of the tyrosine kinase inhibitor imatinib in children and adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and chronic myeloid leukemia.
The TEAM study (Thiopurine Enhanced ALL Maintenance), a randomized phase 3 trial in children and young adults 0–45 years with acute lymphoblastic leukemia across 13 European countries. The TEAM strategy uses a novel combination of antimetabolites for maintenance treatment and aims to halve the risk of relapse. Blood samples from ~100 centers are sent to Bonkolab for comprehensive mapping of maintenance metabolites.
