Department of Vascular Surgery
The Department of Vascular Surgery is among the largest vascular clinics in Europe.
Our experience and volumes of treatment are considerable, providing a valuable base for development of new treatments and basic research.
About us
The departments at Rigshospitalet and Gentofte Hospital treat patients suffering from all kinds of vascular diseases. We receive patients with rare vascular diseases from all over Denmark. In addition, we have a special unit for venous diseases at Gentofte Hospital.
At the Department of Vascular Surgery Rigshospitalet, we want to approach the patient in a holistic manner. We deal with patients with all kinds of vascular disease, and interventions include lifestyle changes as well as medical and/or surgical treatment (endovascular and open surgery). We also perform non-invasive investigations such as vascular ultrasonography and peripheral blood pressure measurements.
We aim to make the individual course of treatment as simple as possible for the patient, e.g., ultrasound examination on the first day of consultation (one-stop clinic). Treatment and care are planned in teamwork between various disciplines, with patients being allocated specific nurses and doctors during hospitalisation, according to coordinated standards and clinical guidelines. There is ongoing research, specialisation, and development of competence.
The clinic consists of
Rigshospitalet
Unit RK 3113 and RK 3114 for in-patients
Unit RK 3111 for out-patients
Gentofte Hospital
Unit B-714 for in-patients
Unit BA-712 for out-patients

Research
The Research Committee at the Department of Vascular Surgery Rigshospitalet discusses and prioritises individual research and development projects, and several people in the department are actively engaged in research. In collaboration with the management group and the Quality Council, new research results and knowledge are implemented.
In collaboration with managers and the management at the department, experts such as professors, lecturers, quality managers, doctors, and nurses responsible for training, medical specialists and specialist nurses attend to research training and development obligations and tasks.
