Forum for Cancer Symptom Research

Forum for Cancer Symptom Research strengthens and supports evidence-based nursing practice for symptom management of patients with cancer. The forum is affiliated with the Comprehensive Symptom Research Program Models of Cancer Care.

The aim of Forum for cancer symptom research is to advance the science of symptom management and support evidence-based clinical nursing practice within the field of oncological and hematological malignant diseases.
The forum supports three core areas: clinical nursing practice, research and education. The aim of clinical nursing practice is to provide high quality supportive care, rehabilitation and palliation to prevent or ameliorate symptoms and/or toxicities associated with cancer and its treatment. Symptom management research includes studies and programs that identify, prevent and manage symptoms of cancer and treatment and quality of life during the survivorship continuum in patients and their caregivers. The goal of education is to equip students from bachelor programs to multidisciplinary clinical and pre and post academic levels with knowledge and skills within symptom science research and clinical practice in collaboration with health professionals and researchers.

The forum will develop existing models and methods for symptom management in close collaboration with national and international network groups and has established collaborative agreements with leading Scandinavian and American international researchers within the field of symptom science and management. Furthermore, the purpose is to structure and support national stakeholders and networks engaged within research in clinical care nursing and research in symptom science and management.

The forum is anchored in the research program Models of Cancer Care at the Departments of Oncology and Hematology, Center for Cancer and Organ Diseases at Copenhagen University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, Denmark. This ensures multidisciplinary involvement and connection to specialized fields of practice. Models of Cancer Care is funded by Novo Nordisk Foundation.
