​In 2016, the Capital Region of Copenhagen, Rigshospitalet, and Ole Kirk’s Fond formed a unique partnership for the construction of Mary Elizabeth’s Hospital – Rigshospitalet for children, teens, and expecting families. The hospital is named after Mary Elizabeth, Her Majesty The Queen of Denmark.

Each of the three stakeholdes bring different competencies to the project:

Rigshospitalet - provides a strong healthcare foundation and a deep understanding of patient care.

The Capital Region of Denmark – in addition to the willingness to develop new innovative solutions, The Capital Region of Denmark brings construction and project management experience to the project.

Ole Kirk’s Fond – besides donating nearly, a third of the total budget, Ole Kirk’s Fond contributes with competencies within design, innovation, and play to enhance the hospital experience.

The total budget for the project is 4,5 billion DKK, with Ole Kirk’s Fond contributing nearly 1 billion DKK. Of this, 85 million DKK is earmarked to develop the hospital experience at the hospital.​
