About us

The Department of Reumatology and Spine Diseases is Denmark's largest rheumatology department and Northern Europe's largest interdisciplinary department for back diseases.

The department prevents, diagnoses, treats and rehabilitates patients with diseases and injuries that affect joints, muscles, back and bones.

There is a large interdisciplinary collaboration across the various departments in the ward and with the hospital's other wards. The interdisciplinary activities ensure that the processes for our patients are optimized in relation to visitation, examination and treatment.

In addition, the department works to set innovative, interdisciplinary and patient-focused standards for the quality of the services offered in the department.

At the The Department of Reumatology and Spine Diseases, we examine and treat patients with diseases of the joints, muscles, back and bones.

We are together approx. 300 employees and has approx. 300 outpatients a day.

Research and education

The Department of Reumatology and Spine Diseases is affiliated with the University of Copenhagen and has extensive activities within research, development and education. We have leading experts in both arthritis and back diseases, who participate in several research projects.

Research

The Copenhagen Center for Arthritis Research

At the Copenhagen Center for Arthritis Research (COPECARE), we strive to improve and ensure optimal diagnosis, treatment and care of patients with rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthritis and other inflammatory arthritides.

We aim at performing internationally recognized research. Moreover, we place high priority on ensuring that our research results are translated into clinical practice and disseminated through education and training to patients and colleagues.

Copenhagen Research Center for Autoimmune Connective Tissue Diseases

At the Department of Rheumatology at Rigshospitalet, COPEACT (Copenhagen Research Center for Autoimmune Connective Tissue Diseases) serves as a research center where we aim to acquire new knowledge and understanding through research to benefit our patients with autoimmune connective tissue diseases.

Research in the Centre of Head and Orthopaedics

The Centre of Head and Orthopaedics offers research-bases highly specialized diagnostic evaluation, treatment, surgery, rehabilitation and care for trauma patients and patients with orthopeadic disorders. Our research and educational activities are focused on improving treatment, diagnostics and care and are a priority of the Centre of Head and Orthopaedics.
