Early Mobilization and Rehabilitation

We conduct research on how early, how intensively, and for how long individuals with acquired brain and spinal cord injuries can be trained in order to achieve the best rehabilitation outcomes and prevent complications during the course of recovery.

Research Project: Frequent Mobilization to Prevent Complications
The project Describing the physical mobilisation provided to patients with acquired brain injury in intensive care units is based on the hypothesis that frequent mobilization may help prevent certain complications such as pneumonia and contractures. The project aims to investigate the impact of timing, intensity, and duration of mobilization in patients with brain injuries admitted to neuro-intensive care units. Activity monitors are used to record movement and positioning during intensive care admission. The project plans to include approximately 200 patients from several intensive care units across Denmark.

Research Project: Feasibility of a Training Program for Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury
The INSPIRE project is a randomized multicenter feasibility and pilot trial investigating an intensive sit-to-stand training program for patients with traumatic brain injury during rehabilitation. The aim is to assess feasibility in terms of increased training intensity, participant recruitment, and measurement of functional outcomes.

The project is expected to be completed in December 2026.
