Copenhagen Center of Coronary Interventional Cardiology

Our research group is led by Professor Thomas Engstrøm and Dr. Jacob Lønborg. We are currently 11 researchers (senior and ph.d.-students) and 5 medicine students. Our research focuses on cardioprotective therapies in patients with ishemic heart disease and optimizing coronary intervention including intravascular imaging and pressure-derived strategies. All in all, the core foundation of our research is improving the clinical course in patients with ischemic heart diseases.

Main research areas

  • Ischemic heart disease
  • Ishemic heart failure
  • Reperfusion injury following STEMI
  • The significance of pressure-derived and intravascular imaging strategies in percutaneous coronary interventions
  • Revascularization in patients with structural heart disease and STEMI
  • Ischemia-induced arrythmia and ICD
  • Imaging: Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR), Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) and Optical Cohorence Tomoraphy (OCT)
  • Optimal antithrombotic therapy following ACS

We are currently chairing international and nationwide RCTs in patients with ishemic heart disease alongside participating in national and international clinical trials.
