Prof. Dr. De Backer primarily takes care of patients with structural heart disease, aortic disease and atrial fibrillation. He has extensive expertise in transcatheter treatment of valvular heart disease, transcatheter closure of the left atrial appendage and patent foramen ovale and transcatheter endovascular aortic repair. Prof. Dr. De Backer's research is also primarily focused on the field of structural interventional cardiology. His areas of interest include the use of multimodality cardiac imaging in the pre-procedural, intra-procedural and post-procedural phase of structural heart interventions and the development of novel interventional techniques and technologies.
