Healthcare systems are facing increasing pressure from demographic change, rising levels of chronic disease and workforce shortages. Against this backdrop, Rigshospitalet and Medtronic are joining forces in a strategic partnership focused on the operating room and the wider patient pathway.
By combining clinical expertise, medical technology, data-driven insights and implementation experience, the partners will identify, pilot and evaluate solutions designed to improve patient outcomes, optimise clinical workflows, and support more effective use of healthcare resources.
Medtronic and Rigshospitalet already have a longstanding and broad collaboration. This includes the partnership with the Heart Centre, collaboration with CAMES and the Centre for Cancer and Organ Diseases on robotic technology, as well as clinical research- and studies across a wide range of specialisations and departments at Rigshospitalet.
Over the years, this collaboration has evolved into a trusting partnership based on a shared ambition to develop innovative and sustainable solutions and improve patient pathways. The new strategic partnership builds on this foundation and establishes a joint framework for new projects across specialisations.
Projects of the partnership will explore how technology and data can support clinical decision-making, streamline workflows and capacity utilisation, reduce administrative and clinical burdens, and improve the coordination of care.
The partnership will initially focus on exploring opportunities to strengthen clinical excellence and innovation across selected healthcare pathways.
One focus area is the development of a spine centre of excellence, exploring how new approaches to care delivery, technology adoption, professional development, and quality improvement can support the continued advancement of highly specialised clinical services in the spine area.
Another area of interest is capacity management, exploring how the use of data, analytics, and emerging digital capabilities can support more effective patient pathways, better capacity overview, and operational decision-making. This, with the aim of helping clinical teams identify challenges earlier and support continuous improvements in patient care and service delivery.

Each initiative will have clearly defined clinical, operational and, where relevant, financial objectives. Progress and outcomes will be evaluated regularly to ensure that projects deliver meaningful value.
The partners will focus on three areas of impact:

- Healthcare professional impact: Better support for clinical decision-making, more efficient workflows, and reduced administrative and clinical burden.
