New Partnership to Develop Solutions for the Future of Healthcare

A new collaboration between Rigshospitalet, Zealand University Hospital and Siemens Healthineers aims to strengthen quality of care and health equity by bringing together public and private actors to develop solutions that work in practice.

Rigshospitalet, Zealand University Hospital and Siemens Healthineers have entered a long-term strategic partnership to explore and develop new solutions in diagnostics and treatments, data utilisation and hospital workflows, benefiting both patients and the healthcare system.

Driven by an aging population and a growing burden of non‑communicable diseases, demand for healthcare continues to rise across geographies. At the same time hospitals are facing severe challenges due to increasing workforce shortages, staff retirements, a growing number of patients and expanding treatment expectations. This leads to new demands on how hospitals organise care and use technology.

To address this Rigshospitalet, Zealand University Hospital and Siemens Healthineers have established a long-term strategic partnership that will serve as a framework for joint development projects across hospitals, clinical specialties and technological domains ensuring that innovation and new solutions are implemented to directly benefit the patients.

This collaboration aims to strengthen quality of care and health equity. By bringing together public and private actors to develop solutions that work in practice, the partnership aims to contribute to the development of future-ready, resilient, sustainable, and value-driven healthcare systems.

- Health equity is a core priority for us. We must ensure that all patients receive coherent treatment of the highest quality, regardless of their zip code. This partnership aims to move beyond simply increasing the volume of services and instead focuses on creating a sustainable healthcare model that challenges current overactivity. We can achieve this by bringing our diverse competencies into play through close collaboration across disciplines and sectors, says Morten Ziebell, Chief Medical Officer at Zealand University Hospital.

Joint Development and Testing of New Solutions

The partnership serves as a shared framework for developing and testing solutions & services in clinical practice, generating insights into how we can improve patient pathways and enhance operational efficiency.

Rigshospitalet and Zealand University Hospital contribute with clinical expertise, experience with complex patient pathways and access to real-world environments where new solutions can be tested in close collaboration with healthcare professionals.

- The healthcare system is currently under significant and unprecedented pressure, underscoring the urgent need to develop and implement innovative solutions, new competencies, and advanced ways of working. However, it is equally clear that none of us can address these challenges in isolation. This is why we have come together as three equal partners, committed to jointly developing concrete and sustainable solutions. The partnership between Siemens, Zealand University Hospital, and Rigshospitalet exemplifies how structured collaborative effort across organisations can drive the necessary transformation – ultimately to the benefit of patients, says Malene Fischer, Deputy Chief Executive at Rigshospitalet.
Siemens Healthineers brings technological expertise in diagnostics, cancer care and minimally invasive therapies, augmented by digital technology and artificial intelligence.

Focus on Patient Pathways and Resource Optimisation

A key objective of the collaboration is to explore how technology and data can support more consistent quality of care and strengthen clinical decision-making.

The partners specifically aim to increase access to high value care and enable fast access irrespective of geographical location. They also seek to enhance efficiency by optimizing patient pathways and improving decision‑making.

“Healthcare systems are under tremendous pressure, and solving this challenge requires more than incremental improvements. Together with Rigshospitalet and Zealand University Hospital, we want to co-create, innovate and translate solutions into clinical practice that strengthen clinical decision-making, optimize patient pathways, and help deliver consistently high-quality care to more people. By combining clinical excellence and MedTech (medical technology) know-how, we aim to enable more value-based and resilient healthcare—where access and outcomes do not depend on geography," says Julia Andes, Senior Vice President Strategy & Customer Engagement, Europe, Middle East & Africa, at Siemens Healthineers.

A Long-Term Framework for Collaboration

The partnership is established as a long‑term framework agreement, providing a structured basis for the initiation of multiple cross‑cutting projects over time.
The collaboration is intended to generate new knowledge and insights that will ultimately benefit patients and the healthcare system as a whole.
