Background
Cluster headache is one of the most severe and disabling type of headaches. The pathophysiology of this disorder is largely unknown and it may be very difficult to treat, in particular the chronic form of cluster headache. There is a peculiar but yet unclarified relation between cluster headache and sleep as most of these severe headache attacks occur during the night, believed to be caused by a hypothalamic disturbance in the chronobiology.
Current projects
Analysis of socio-economic burden of cluster headache have been finalized and prepared for publication.
Current projects include examination of shift of phenotype, prediction of bout and founding of a biobank, comparing biomarkers of chronic and episodic cluster headache patients and healthy headache-free-controls.
In addition, the Cluster headache group has been participating in two treatment multicenter trials. Treatment of both episodic and chronic cluster headache with anti-CGRP (eptinizumab) for Lundbeck and treatment of chronic cluster-headache with TENS and ONS-stimulation in collaboration with University Hospital of Aarhus.
