The Fertility department in numbers

The department

  • The annual turnover of the Fertility Department is approx. 2,500 cycles
  • The expected number of children born after treatment in 2009 is around 600
In 2009 our standard ART programme included:
  • 591 standard IVF cycles
  • 475 ICSI (including ICSI using TESA) cycles
  • 546 FER cycles


Around 60 per cent of all fresh ART cycles involve single embryo transfer and the twinning rate after IVF was 11 per cent and 16 per cent after ICSI.

For couples with HIV or hepatitis infections, 105 cycles of IUI or ART were carried out.

Regarding Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PDG), 53 cycles were performed.

Together with the Laboratory for Reproductive Biology, the department has an extensive programme performing approx. 50 - 60 ovarian cryopreservations in young women with malignant diseases.

The unit dealing with recurrent miscarriage has an annual turnover of 150–200 patients.
