The child and its parents may be offered sessions with a psychologist and counselling with a social advisor upon agreement. Referral takes place from the department where the child is being treated. Referral to a psychologist may take place when the psychological problems are:
Closely related to disease, treatment, recovery
Important for cooperation/participation in the treatment provided by the hospital
Estimated to be alleviated or reduced through conversations with a psychologist.
The psychologist may:
Conduct relevant psychological examinations after referral and self assessment
Advise on support from other authorities, such as psychologists in private practices
Prepare statements for support to the patient in other institutions.
The social advisor advises and supports, for example in connection with statements, in the families’ contact to the local municipality.
