DACOLT

DACOLT – The Danish Comorbidity in Liver Transplant Recipients Study​​.


DACOLT is a national, observational, and longitudinal study. The overall aim is to determine the burden of comorbidities in liver transplant recipients and to examine whether this differs from the background population. Furthermore, we want to identify both liver- and transplant-related risk factors as well as traditional risk factors that contribute to the pathogenesis of comorbidity in liver transplant recipients. ​


Pulmonal
The fraction of exhaled nitric oxid is a biomarker of eosinophilic airway inflammation. We found that living with a transplanted liver was significantly associated with elevated fraction of exhaled nitric oxid, indicating more eosinophilic airway inflammation in people living with a transplanted liver compared to the general population. 

Endocrinology
We found that people living with a transplanted liver had twice the odds of having hyperthyroidism compared to age- and sex matched controls from the general population independently of age, sex, smoking, and BMI, but similar odds of hypothyroidism.
