Our main aim is to increase survival, reduce the burden of comorbidity (infectious and non-communicable diseases), and increase quality of life for persons that are immunosuppressed.
Most of our work is focused on persons with HIV and persons living with a transplanted organ.
Ongoing work in VIRU includes:
- Study of prevalence and incidence of infections and comorbidities in persons with HIV or persons with a transplanted organ. We collaborate with Copenhagen General Population Study which enable us to determine if HIV or transplantation is a risk factor for a given infection or comorbidity.
- Identification of risk factors for infections or comorbidities in persons with HIV or persons with a transplanted organ. Thus, we aim to identify persons with high risk and to implement personal and intensified prevention in those at highest risk.
- During the COVID-19 pandemic, we have determined incidence of and complications related to COVID-19. In addition, we determine impact of vaccination.
- Use of vaccination to prevent infections in persons with HIV or persons with a transplanted organ. We determine immune responses and aim to determine the optimal timing of vaccination and need of booster vaccinations.
