V710 trial

A Randomized, Multicenter, Double-Blind, Group-Sequential Study to Evaluate the Efficacy, Immunogenicity, and Safety of a Single Dose of a Staphylococcus Vaccine in Adult Patients Scheduled for Cardiothoracic Surgery.
Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00518687.

AP214 trial

The purpose of the present research study is to investigate the pharmacokinetics, as well as safety, tolerability and pharmacodynamics of different ascending dosing regimens of AP214 in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. AP214, the investigational drug, is being developed to potentially prevent post-surgical kidney injury after thoracic aortic aneurysm repair.
Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00903604.

CARRPO trial

Arterial Revascularization for Coronary Bypass Surgery: A Randomized Trial Comparing the Outcome after Using LIMA + Vein Grafts Versus Total Arterial Revascularization with LIMA + RIMA + Radial Artery Grafts.
Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00159991.

Mosaic study

Early Anticoagulation Regimen Comparison in the Mosaic Aortic Bioprosthesis. A prospective, randomised study. The purpose of this investigation is to clarify if treatment with Aspirin 150 mg daily for 3 months can replace the conventional anticoagulant therapy for patients who receive a biological aortic valve prosthesis, type “Mosaic, model 305”.

TEG-CABG study

ThrombElastoGraphic Coagulation Status and Antiplatelet Therapy after Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery (TEG-CABG).

In the immediate period after CABG surgery, and the following month, graft occlusion mainly occurs due to thrombosis.Hypercoagulable patients are identified with thrombelastography (TEG) and thereafter randomized to either clopidogrel (3 months) and aspirin or aspirin alone. A control group of normocoagulable patients is also studied. At 3 months postoperative and then again 1 year after surgery the coronary graft patency is assessed with Multislice CT scan.Pre- and postoperatively, and then again at 3-month and 1-year follow up, TEG and multiplate aggregometry are performed to assess platelet reactivity and resistance to aspirin and clopidogrel.
Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT01046942.

NN1810 – factor XIII study

Multi-national Study Investigating the Effect and Safety of rFXIII on Transfusion Needs in Patients undergoing Heart Surgery
Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00914589.

Best Bypass Surgery trial

Off-pump versus on-pump CABG in patients with 3-vessel disease and a EuroSCORE ≥5. A randomized single-center trial with blinded outcome assessment.
Clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00120991.

The VOLCANO trial

Valve replacement in patients with severe aOrtic vaLve stenosis comparing transCAtheter and surgical implaNtatiOn.A randomized clinical trial of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) versus conventional surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients older than 70 years with severe aortic valve stenosis. In January 2010 the trial is at the recruiting patients stage.
Clinicaltrials.gov, identifier NCT01057173.

PPC trial

Perfusion, Pressure and Creatinine trial. The impact of the perfusion pressure during extra-corporeal circulation on the postoperative kidney function.

Virtual-reality bronchoscopy simulator study

Our department gives future surgeons in Cardiothoracic Surgery many opportunities to practice their skills outside the operating theatres: Black-box simulators for thoracoscopic training, a virtual-reality bronchoscopy simulator and regular scheduled wet-lab and dry-lab practice sessions. There is an ongoing PhD-study at the department that is exploring the possibilities of objective assessment and simulation-based education in thoracic surgery.
