The cancer treatment is organised in a multi-facetted fashion, and each year, the department receives between 600 and 1,000 patients from East Denmark for package courses with prebooked diagnosing times.
Both primary surgery and salvage surgery of all head and neck cancer types, except skin cancers, are performed.
Each year, the department performs 50-60 major reconstruction surgery procedures with free patches together with the department of plastic surgery.
The department’s techniques are under continuous development and research concentrates on new treatment methods. The department has introduced sentinel-node surgery as a standard for T1-T1N0 oral-cavity cancer patients.
Most recently the department has received a daVinci surgical robot for head and neck surgery (donated by Candy Foundation), started up since june 2013.
