About Centre of Head and Orthopaedics

​Centre of Head and Orthopaedics (HovedOrtoCentret) is Rigshospitalet's largest surgical center and is characterized by many interdisciplinary patient courses as well as our high standard of research that contributes to important knowledge within our treatment areas.

 
Centre of Head and Orthopaedics is a center that spans a wide range. Our departments have responsibility for several of the region's largest groups of chronically ill patients, who come to our clinics throughout life.  At the same time, we offer highly specialized treatments and have area of expertise where we are responsible for patients from all over Denmark as well as we receive the most acute patients from all over the country at our Trauma Center.
 
The center performs about 107,000 surgeries a year which corresponds to approx. 300 operations every day, all year round.
And each week, the center's wards receive about 8,000 outpatients. That is around 420,000 outpatient visits a year.
 
Centre of Head and Orthopaedics has approx. 2200 employees who represent an incredible number of different disciplines; most doctors, nurses, therapists and secretaries, but also many other specialized professions. Some so specialized that there are under a handful with the same professionalism.
We have 17 professors, and the researchers in the center publish almost 600 research publications every year - with new and important knowledge for the benefit of the patients.

Departments​

There are nine departments in the Centre of Head and Orthopaedics. Each department has several specialties and subspecialties within the department's area:
 
Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Department of Plastic Surgery and Burns Treatment, Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery & Audiology, Department of Anaesthesiology and Trauma Center, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy, Department of Rheumatology and Spine Diseases and Department of Ophthalmology.
 
The center's professors ensure that research in the key areas is developed at an international level and is used in patient care.
