The material is stored primarily out of concerns for patients and relatives with a view to renewed analysis, e.g. recurrence of cancer diseases or diagnosing congenital cancer.
The majority of the samples are fixed in formalin and cast in paraffin. In the past 20 years, an increasing amount of unfixed tissue has been frozen for molecular biological studies.
The Department of Pathology participates in a national collaboration on establishment of a research biobank suitable for newly diagnosed cancer.
