Danish researchers discover a new inherited heart disease A cardiologist from The National University Hospital, Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen spearheaded an international collaboration project with colleagues from Oxford and Amsterdam and made an out-of-the-ordinary discovery. Together with experts in bioinformatics from the University of Copenhagen and the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), the cardiologists have identified a previously undiscovered severe heart disease – the inherited familial ST depressions syndrome. Heart scan on 36,000 newborns for useful new knowledge Over the next two years, parents of all newborns at Rigshospitalet, Herlev Hospital and Hvidovre Hospital will have an option to have their babies' hearts scanned shortly after birth. New professor to strengthen efforts against congenital heart diseases Professor Henning Bundgaard has been a pioneer in endeavours to improve treatment of patients with congenital heart diseases in Denmark and to give affected relatives the opportunity to be examined for congenital heart diseases.
