Department of Psychology, Play Therapy and Social Counselling

Department of Psychology, Play Therapy, & Social Counselling attends the psychological, social, and educational work in the Juliane Marie Centre.

The psychological, social and educational work provides consulting, support, and treatment of parents, children, and families, as well examination and testing of children and learning activities for children.

The department specializes in identifying specific psychological reactions in connection with fatal diseases and rare illnesses, and in starting a focused and determined intervention/treatment.
This department also specializes in the identification of particular social needs and the commencement of specific social guidance, especially with relation to fatal diseases and rare illnesses. Neuropsychological testing of children, psychological treatment connected to pregnancies, labour, and maternity leave, and neonatal examination are all examples of this department’s specialties.

Research and education
Research and development in the psychosocial area is a fundament of the centre’s research and development strategy.

Research areas are:
Psychosocial and neuropsychological consequences of cancer treatment during infancy
Fathers and childbirths and father’s relationship to the newborn
Treatment of obesity among children
Post examination of infants born premature.

Department of Psychology, Play Therapy, & Social Counselling is a part of the research cooperation with The University of Copenhagen, among others.

The department provides supervision and education within the psychosocial and learning area to the staff in the centre, and participates in developing staff educational programs.
