The Copenhagen Workshop on Cryopreservation of Ovarian Tissue is a three-day laboratory and lecture course designed for scientists (scientific as well as clinical fellows) who are interested in learning the technique behind the successful and well established Danish Cryopreservation Programme for Ovarian Tissue. Workshop, May 22-24, 2012 is FULL!Next workshop is August 28-30, 2012 - OPEN for applications!
Young women and girls with a malignant disease, such as cancer, face the risk of losing ovarian function and becoming sterile as a side effect of the gonadotoxic treatment they receive. By low temperature cryo-storage of the ovarian tissue prior to initiation of a potential sterilizing gonadotoxic treatment, it is now possible to restore fertility by transplanting the frozen/thawed tissue once the patient has recovered. Considerable success has been achieved in terms of restoration of hormonal cyclicity in patients, and currently, 18 healthy children have been born worldwide as a result of transplanting frozen/thawed ovarian tissue (International Society of Fertility Preservation, 2010).
