The Heart Centre at Copenhagen University Hospital consists of the Heart and Lung Surgical Clinic together with the Heart Medical Clinic and the Clinic of Anaesthetics and Intensive Therapy. The Heart and Lung Surgical Clinic is one of five specialised departments in Denmark for Heart and Lung Surgery.
Yearly, the clinic performs about 2000 operations on lungs and gullet and approx. 1300 heart operations.
The Heart and Lung Surgical Clinic has three sub-departments:
Congenital heart (cardiac) surgery on adults Pediatric heart (cardiac) surgery Classical thoracic heart (cardiac) surgery
Furthermore, the clinic shares the departments of operations and intensive therapy with the Clinic of Anaesthetics.
The Heart Centre educates nurses on basic and specialist levels, and participates in the education of students of medicine and in specialist cardiothoracic training.
