Clinic of Cardiology

The clinic treats patients with all kinds of heart diseases. In addition, it is a special unit for heart and lung grafting, and electrophysiological treatment of arrhythmia. The intensive care unit admits patients from all over the country suffering from severe heart failure. The clinic has a close cooperation with Heart & Lung Surgical Clinic and Clinic for Anaesthetics and Intensive Therapy.

This homepage addresses itself, first and foremost, to patients and their nearest relations.

Organisation
Clinic of Cardiology is part of the Heart Center at Copenhagen University Hospital and consists of 8 wards, a non-invasive laboratory, Cardiological Laboratory, an outpatient clinic, and an aviation medicine clinic. Connected to the wards is a heart medical intensive care unit as well as functions for both heart and lung grafting and clinical surveillance of 40 patients.

As its primary working area, the non-invasive laboratory performs sonographies of the heart, including specialist examinations via the gullet, and sonographies of heart valves during surgery. In addition, the laboratory manages a telemedical service covering the health authorities in Greenland and non-specialised hospitals in Denmark.

Cardiological Laboratory performs all invasive examination and treatment procedures, including coronary angiographies (CAG), balloon dilatations (PCI), electrophysiological examinations, ablations, transplantations of pacemakers and ICDs, and examinations in relation to heart and lung grafting. Cardiological Laboratory also holds the pacemaker outpatient clinic (monitoring of pacemakers and ICDs) and the outpatient clinic for Holter monitoring and exercise testing.

The outpatient clinic handles the monitoring of patients with complicated clinical courses and admits newly referred patients from other hospitals.

Aviation Medicine Clinic handles current medical examinations of airline staff.

  • 32 secretaries
  • 20 orderlies from the Heart Center’s orderly group
