Rigshospitalet signs two-year research agreement with Eli Lilly & Co

The Neurobiology Research Unit , under the Neuroscience Centre at Rigshospitalet, and researchers at Eli Lilly & Co are to work together on a new basic research project within cognition

The objective of the project is to study brain cells important to working memory and attention span.

The Neurobiology Research Unit have found the neurons in the forebrain assumed to be involved in working memory, and which at the same time respond to a certain new type of drugs. The researchers at Rigshospitalet have also developed a tracer which makes it possible to make images of the areas in the brain to which the new drugs are bound. The project is to further enhance a recently launched research project funded by the Danish Council for Strategic Research.

Over the next two years, Eli Lilly & Co will pay the costs of implementation of new and ground-breaking basic research at Rigshospitalet. Any results from the project will be published in line with other results from the research group at Rigshospitalet. The researchers from Eli Lilly & Co will be participating in the project on an equal footing with Rigshospitalet's researchers.

The manager of the Neurobiology Research Unit, Prof. Gitte Moos Knudsen DMSc says:

- Direct support for our research work by companies is very important. Not only does it mean new opportunities to carry out advanced research, but it is also recognition of our efforts. Moreover, by choosing to support our work, a large international company like Eli Lilly & Co is putting our research into a societal context.
