HIV professor receives prize

Prof. Lundgren receives prize for his unique research work on virual diseases.
The prize is awarded by the Organisationen af Lægevidenskabelige Selskaber (OLS), an organisation of medical companies.

HIV research
Jens Lundgren is a professor of virual diseases at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Copenhagen and a consultant at the Department of Epidemiology at Rigshospital.

He has a large research group at the Panum Institute in Copenhagen (Copenhagen HIV Programme, www.cphiv.dk).

Globally Excellent
Last year, the Copenhagen HIV Programme received one of the ten Global Excellence prizes in health, awarded by the Capital Region of Denmark.

Work by the Copenhagen HIV Programme aims at improving possibilities to treat patients suffering from infectious diseases in general, and more specifically focus is on viral diseases (incl. HIV).

Research concentrates on HIV, viral hepatitis, transplant virology, influenza, tuberculosis, and infection in patients in intensive wards.

Specialist with many titles
Jens Lundgren qualified as a researcher from the National Institutes of Health in the US and his clinical training is mainly from Hvidovre Hospital and Rigshospitalet.

Today he is a medical specialist in infection medicine and internal medicine. Prof. Lundgren is also a member of the Association of American Physicians (AAP), chief editor of the Danish journal HIV Medicin and chairman of the Scientific Steering Committee of the NIH-sponsored network for clinical studies known as INSIGHT (International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials).
