Graduates from medium-cycle higher education (MVU) strengthen clinical research

In 2008 the first batch of MVU students acquired their master’s degree from Copenhagen University (Master of Health Science). Making use of the new graduates provides a unique opportunity for Rigshospitalet to strengthen future clinical research and improve overall patient treatment. Research should not merely be for professional groups with long-cycle higher educational qualifications, such as doctors. Also nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, medical laboratory technologists and midwives with medium-cycle higher education (MVU) should be able to carry out research, if they meet the formal qualifications. A year ago, Rigshospitalet decided to support research-committed MVU employees in their research efforts, by e.g. creating shared positions. In 2008 the first group of students attained a master’s degree from the Master of Health Science programme at Copenhagen University.

Integrated collaboration across hospitals

In 2008 a unique collaboration was established where the Department of Radiation Oncology at Rigshospitalet was expanded with a satellite function in the town of Næstved. This involves daily exchange of doctors between Næstved Sygehus and the Department of Radiation Oncology at Rigshospitalet as well as three weekly video conferences. These are the main elements in a new collaboration launched in 2008. With the satellite function in Næstved, radiation oncology has been reinforced and the two accelerators at Næstved were added to the 13 already at Rigshospitalet.  Read more...


Research paves the way for the future


It is like finding a needle in the haystack. Nevertheless persistent researchers continue their valuable work on improving treatments and obtaining new knowledge - and this is imperative for the future. Research is the trademark of Rigshospitalet, and therefore research is being given the highest status and priority. Rigshospitalet achieves and communicates its results through extensive national and international collaboration, and each of the hospital’s eight centres has a number of special focus areas within research.  Read more...
