Cancer packages at Rigshospitalet

In 2008 focus was on packages and especially cancer packages. This means higher ambitions and increases in the development of better courses of therapy.A cancer package is a patient course where the individual steps are organised as well-defined events in terms of time and content, following a pre-booked course. The Danish Government’s introduction of cancer packages is aimed at offering patients optimal evaluation and treatment. This can be e.g. by establishing quicker diagnoses and by starting relevant treatments as early as possible. A package should thus also improve the course of the treatment and reduce any uncertainty about waiting time.

As in 2008, Rigshospitalet is continuing work on meeting the requirements for the most attractive packages. It is important and most efficient for patients and professional staff when the various courses of therapy are cohesive.

However, packages should also balance other diseases that have nothing to do with cancer so that some patient groups are not given precedence over others.

For the packages to work as best as possible, Rigshospitalet has hired a number of process coordinators who are responsible for coordinating patient courses centrally and externally in the centres, and who will also help ensure that patient information is organised in a proper manner.
