Danish Dementia Research Center

The Danish Dementia Research Centre receives the Global Excellence Award for its clinical and translational research in dementia.
Visions and goals
The Danish Dementia Research Centre emphasises research, dissemination and treatment in the field of dementia diseases.
Denmark is the future innovative and active co-player in international work, and the research centre is working to improve Denmark’s opportunities in participating in large, international solutions.

The centre also aims at strengthening and coordinating the development of specific treatment and care offers in the field of dementia, as well as ensuring dissemination of knowledge and communication to regions and municipalities in Denmark.

Facts about the Danish Dementia Research Centre
The inauguration of the Danish Dementia Research Centre took place on World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September 2007. The centre was set up attached to the Memory Clinic, which is the department at the Rigshospitalet for patients with dementia diseases.

The centre has 45 employees and in addition to cooperation with international research groups and the two national research centres in Norway and Sweden, the Danish Dementia Research Centre is also a member of the European Alzheimer’s Disease Consortium. 

Research and results
In the research area, the research centre has identified new mutations of dementia diseases, and it has examined the effects of giving early psycho-social support to patients and relatives living with Alzheimer’s.

The centre is also behind a cross-disciplinary network of Danish dementia departments and a national network of dementia ambassadors.
